An automatic gearbox on a modern European car packs mechanics, hydraulics and electronics into one unit. Its behaviour changes gradually before it fails: a slight delay on engagement, a jolt at one specific shift, hesitation on deceleration. These are readable signals, and correct service usually solves them long before a full overhaul becomes necessary.
Transmission fluid is what protects the internals. Changing it on time with the right specification prevents most costly failures; neglecting it slowly damages clutch packs and mechatronics.

01
Transmission fluid carries hydraulic pressure, cools the unit and sets clutch friction. With heat and time it degrades and carries metal debris into the valve body. In Riyadh's climate the effect of a delayed change is very visible. Our change is not a drain and fill: we drop the pan, replace filter and gasket, clean the magnets, then fill the calculated volume at a controlled temperature, because a wrong level causes overheating or pressure loss.
02
Jolts and delays do not always mean internal damage. Many cases originate in the mechatronics: internal valve leakage, an electrical connector wicking fluid into the unit, or adaptation values that drifted over time. We read line pressures, fluid temperature and adaptation values during a road test, and that separates a contained repair from a full teardown.

A vibration at a steady 60–100 km/h often relates to the torque converter lock-up clutch, and is frequently confused with wheel imbalance or engine mounts. We separate them with a guided road test and data logging: watching converter slip and the lock-up point, and checking whether the vibration follows engine speed or road speed. Correct diagnosis here saves you a large, unnecessary job.
