Serious indicators: low compression in one or more cylinders, high oil consumption with blue smoke, excessive crankcase pressure, or a deep metallic knock tied to engine speed. Any one calls for measurement; together they usually mean internal work costs less than repeated patching. If the readings are healthy, we say so and point you to the smaller fix even when it earns us less.

The engine comes out and is stripped completely, then parts are cleaned and inspected: the head is crack-tested and skimmed if needed, valves and seats are reworked, bores are measured for roundness and taper, the crankshaft is measured and reground if required, and bearings are selected by actual measurement rather than assumption. Gaskets, seals, pump and timing chain are replaced as a full set, because reusing an old part inside a rebuilt engine is a pointless risk.

After assembly we set the timing, build oil pressure before the first start, then run the engine while monitoring temperature, pressure and live data. We road-test, re-torque what requires it, and set your running-in plan: gentle driving for the first distance and an early oil change. We explain this stage because a successful overhaul is not completed inside the workshop alone.
